Marathon Runners and Probiotics

Like most exercise, running is good for your microbes. However, a 26.2 mile marathon can be a pretty extreme challenge, and can lead to an imbalance of gut flora in the microbiome, and even respiratory issues. Having a healthy gut microbiome is thus essential for such athlete’s health and performance. New research shows that probiotics may help runners “reach the finish line.”
